FAQ

What makes Elly and Lou pyjamas different?

Elly and Lou pyjamas are made from ultra-soft, temperature regulating bamboo fabric that keeps little ones comfortable year-round. Plus, every design is illustrated by Jess for a magical, one-of-a-kind look!

Are your pyjamas true to size ?

Yes! our pyjamas are designed to be snug fitting and stretch to fit for their safety. If your child is in-between sizes, has a fuller build/ rounder tummy or prefers a looser fit, we recommend sizing up for their comfort and longevity of wear. Otherwise, we recommend choosing their normal clothing size. See our size chart for more information, or email us at hello@ellyandlou.co.nz if you have any questions.

Why does your pyjamas have tags ? my child is sensitive to tags.

We follow New Zealand's safety standards, which require children's pyjamas to have a fire safety tag for compliance. This tag must be attached by law, so we decided to have our Elly and Lou label as a tag also. We understand some children are sensitive to tags so we have tried to make them as soft as we could.

Are your pyjamas safe for sensitive skin ?

Yes ! Our bamboo fabric is naturally hypoallergenic and breathable making it a gentle choice for babies and kids with eczema or sensitive skin.

Will my bamboo pyjamas pill ?

Pilling is a natural characteristic of ultra-soft fabrics, including high-quality bamboo. It occurs when fabric fibres rub against each other, especially in areas of high friction like the underarms, thighs, and where babies crawl. While our 220 GSM bamboo fabric is thicker and more durable then many other brands, some pilling may still occur over time.

How can I minimise pilling ?

To reduce pilling and keep your pyjamas looking their best

  • wash inside-out, in cold water on a gentle cycle.
  • wash with similar colours
  • use a mild detergent ( do not use harsh chemicals and fabric softeners)- harsh chemicals and fabric softeners can break down bamboo fibres.
  • Hang to dry is best but they can be tumble dried on low heat.

An extra step to safe guard your pyjamas is to wash them inside out, in a delicates wash bag to keep them protected from the rest of your washing.

Bamboo is a natural fibre and is delicate so it should be washed separately from any items that may be damaging like towels, any hardware and velcro.

What if my pyjamas start to pill ?

Mild pilling is normal and does not affect the softness or quality of the fabric. You can use a fabric shaver to gently remove pills and refresh the fabric if desired.
